BP Scouting

BP Scouting

BP Scouting is an annual process for Units and Groups to 'check in' on their progress against a set of standards deemed 'best practice'.

This process is completed via MyScout.

Section Leaders will see something like this on their homepage. Click on your Section so you can complete the appropriate BP Scouting checklist.

And Group Leaders (or the Leader in Charge) will see something like this on their homepage. Click on the Group link so you can complete the Group checklist.

Now you’re on the Formation page. Scroll down until you find the blue ‘BP Scouting’ tab. It’s toward the bottom

Once clicked, the ‘BP Scouting’ tab will expand to reveal a green ‘Add New +’ button. Click on that to commence a new checklist for your Section or Group.

The checklist will look similar to this. Statements are written on the left and there are four (4) options to choose from in response directly next to it. Chose whichever of the four (4) options more closely represent how you see your Group or Section.
Wherever possible, checklist completion (for Youth Sections) should be Youth Led, Adult supported. Tight timeframes may make this difficult, but please try your best to ensure this happens.

Group checklists should be completed by Group Leaders in consultation with the Group Support Committee and any other Leaders that wish to participate.

Remember – these checklists are not scored. They are simply for you to see how well your Group compares to best practice standards and to assist Groups to develop their annual Group Plan.

When you have fully completed the checklist, you will be sent back to your ‘Formation’ page and the following message will appear at the top of the page. Well done!

If you need to edit or update your responses to your completed Checklist!
Go to your ‘Formation’ (e.g. Blackwood Scout Group or Blackwood Cub Pack 3 (Thurs). Click on the blue BP Scouting tab lick the pencil picture within that tab – you can alter the response and resave.
The results are NOT scored. This is a best practice checklist that ensures we are doing the best we can in order for our Youth members to have the best possible Scouting experience.
It is the responsibility of the Group Leader and each Section Leader to complete their relevant BP Scouting checklist.

Checklists Reports and Summaries
To see which Groups and Units have completed their checklists (Completion Report)
From your home screen, click on ‘New Reports’ and then ‘BP Scouting Completion’

Once on this page, District Commissioners will need to enter their District. Group Leaders will need to enter their Group name.

After clicking ‘Go’, you see a page similar to the below image. This indicates when units/Groups have completed, partially completed or not completed their checklist

To see how Units or Groups responded to the checklists
Firstly, when a Unit/Section or Group that reports to you has completed their checklist, you’ll note you receive an email similar to this:
You can either follow the link in the email OR go to the ‘Formations’ page in MyScout and click on the formation you’d like to review (i.e. either a unit or a Group)
Under ‘Actions’, click on ‘BP Scouting Summary Report’

If the checklist has been completed, this summary report will show how the Unit or Group has responded. Please ignore any references to scoring – it is not being utilised within BP Scouting.
You can also edit results (and add comments/certification) by going to the Formation page (i.e. Aberfoyle Park Joey Mob) and go to the BP Scouting tab.

Click on the small ‘pencil’ icon to edit.

For Section/Unit checklists, Group Leaders and District Commissioners should include how they will assist. For Group checklists, only the District Commissioner will need to include how the District will be assisting. Once all additions have been made, click the green ‘Save’ icon at the bottom of the page.
