Getting Started with Microsoft OneDrive

If your PC currently runs on latest versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11, OneDrive would come preinstalled in your device, otherwise for older versions of Windows, you can install OneDrive by following the link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-365/onedrive/download

To start using OneDrive (web version)

Please visit onedrive.com and sign in using your MS365 account
Password:_your_new_password
Please note the licensing provided to us by Microsoft under their Not-for-profit program provides our users access to both the web and desktop versions of the OneDrive application.


Once you are successfully signed in, your left navigation pane would look like this in the display:



To Sync OneDrive with files in your device, open the OneDrive app for desktop and sign in using your MS365 user details.

To start using OneDrive (Desktop Version)

If your PC is running on the latest version of Windows 10 and 11, you would find an offline OneDrive icon in the bottom left of your task bar menu.


Click through the icon to display the "sign-in" page



Click on "Sign-in" to display the OneDrive Set up Page. Enter your MS365 username: membernumber@sa.scouts.com.au






If you have enabled Two Factor Authentication (2FA) you will be prompted to approve/verify your login. For help on setting up Two Factor Authentication, please refer to the following guide: Enable MultiFactor Authentication
Approve sign-in request by confirming the security code on your Multifactor Authentication App.



Once this is confirmed, click through the rest of the process by choosing "Next".


Where you have "change location" in the display image, you can click through the option to choose where you want your OneDrive Folder to sit for easy accessibility.
During the rest of the setup, you would be required to choose what folders to back up and synchronise.
This process would save a copy of your files on your desktop so you can have access on both web and desktop.



Click on "later" to finish set up.


Once set up is finished, you would get a notification at the bottom right of your screen, that OneDrive is "attempting to sync files".


OneDrive Settings on PC/Mac

  1. You can choose to "Pause synchronise" for certain number of intervals.
  2. You can choose "View Online" to view files in the web version of OneDrive.
  3. You can click through "Recycle Bin" to restore/permanently delete files from OneDrive. This would open on the web version.
  4. You can click through "Settings" to manage backup and synchronisation of files/folders. You can also manage other features like unlinking your PC,  manage your storage space as seen in image below:



When you click through "Manage Storage", the application takes you directly to the web version of OneDrive to manage your storage space


When you click through "Choose Folder", you would be able to select/deselect folders to make available in OneDrive.
Click Ok to sync new options.
