How do I reset my MultiFactor Authentication?

How do I reset my MultiFactor Authentication?

Delete your existing MFA for Microsoft, then add a new MFA for your Microsoft account.
This process is slightly different across different authenticator apps. If in doubt, Google the steps for your specific application.

There are two compulsory steps in this process, and other optional requirements (dependent on how you use and access Microsoft 365).

1. Delete your existing multifactor authenticator (MFA) from your MFA app
2. Reset your Microsoft password via a web browser
3. Add a new MFA account to your MFA app
4. (optional) – log in and out of any additional devices, e.g. mobile phone email app, iPad/tablet email app, etc
5. (optional) – re-sync your OneDrive folders to File Explorer
6. (optional) – re-share any direct links to SharePoint sites or OneDrive files

Step One: Delete Your Existing Multi-Factor Authentication

If you already have MFA set up in the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone, make sure you delete the existing Outlook account by clicking on it, then the ‘settings’ icon in the top-right corner then choosing ‘remove account’
Warning
You must complete this step first to avoid issues when reconnecting later!

Step Two: Login to your account

Once you have deleted the old tenancy account from your MFA, visit the website: https://portal.office.com and login with the details:
Password: temporary password that we provided you in an SMS on the 18th February
Click on ‘Next’ to start the MFA setup process

13. If you already have MFA set up in the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone, make sure you have deleted the existing entry by clicking on it, then the ‘settings’ icon in the top right corner then choosing ‘remove account

14. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Microsoft Authenticator (if required) then click ‘Next'

15. Follow the instructions then click ‘Next'

16. Using your Authenticator App on your phone, point your phone camera at the QR Code to add the account to your Microsoft Authenticator app, then click ‘Next

17. An MFA prompt will be sent to your phone – enter the number provided on screen to approve the test MFA prompt

18. You will receive a Success message – click on Done

19. Congratulations! Your password and MFA are now reset, and you can now access your Microsoft 365 apps via the web browser (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint).
(Due to the licence type change, Outlook App for Desktop is no longer available.)

Info
You can now log into Teams (https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-teams/log-in) and Outlook (https://outlook.office.com) with your new account details.

Other Features

20. You may be taken to a My Sign-Ins page. If so, simply click in the top left corner on the 9 dots.
